About Me

I am a classically trained pianist studing under Alfred Lee and Alicia Farmer of The Boston Conservatory of Music. I majored in composition and piano performance, so most of my piano teaching focuses on music theory, composition, and piano performance. I also have some improvisational, jazz, popular, blues background since I am a professional pianist, so please do not feel like my teaching is limited to Bach and Beethoven! My studio is located in Center Harbor, near the borders of Holderness, New Hampton, and Meredith. On Tuesday days I am in the Sanbornton area for those that would like lessons taught at their homes; Tuesday evenings I am at the New Hampton school. Thursday evenings I am in the Tilton area for those that would like lessons at their homes.

I do not adhere to any one method or book for teaching as I have learned that all students are different and have different interests and learn at different speeds. I use a lot of duets for beginners and I focus on the masterworks for advanced pianists. Everyone in between gets to learn pieces that they like so that they progress quickly and easily, building up their repertoire, skills, and confidence.

I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association, and therefore have access to the various juried competitions in piano performance and composition that they sponsor. Any of my students that qualify may enter. I am also the private piano teacher for The New Hampton School and The Tilton School. On Sundays I am the Choir Director, pianist and organist for The Holy Spirit Church in Plymouth, NH. I also belong to the Piano Teachers Guild which allows me to enter my students into National Composition competitions.

About Piano Lessons

For young beginners, I recommend 30-minute lessons once a week. For advanced students and adults I recommend 45-minute or 60-minute sessions once a week. My rates are $20, $30 and $40 for 30-minutes, 45-minutes, and 60-minutes respectively. I do expect my students to practice; practicing makes each new lesson more enjoyable than the last for both teacher and student.

Happy piano student

I hold two recitals a year. One in the Winter and one in the Spring. I also have two schedules: a school-year schedule broken up in to two semesters, and a summer schedule for July and August. You can contact me at any time of the year to organize lessons for either one of these schedules.

I also founded the New Hampshire Independent School of Music, a nonprofit music school where I teach advanced ensembles for youth and adults and develop and organize the Summer Music Camp programs. Any of my students are welcome to join these classes and the camp.--> New Hampshire Independent School of Music. I also run the Web site: NHPiano.com, a free online resource for all things related to the piano.
